Grotto Beasts Tabletop Simulator Mod

APRIL 2023 – PRESENT


SUMMARY

An intricate world of magic and mystery awaits you in the ultimate place to play Grotto Beasts, a monster-brawling card game from the Jerma985 universe.


CONTRIBUTION

I worked as the project’s lead software developer, which involved a variety of technical and interpersonal skills.

  • Designed features and content for the game, including an automated system to play the game, a search tool for the game’s 200 cards, a deck sharing tool, a custom pinball machine, and scripted props and toys.
  • Wrote and tested tens of thousands of lines of code in Lua to produce the software.
  • Worked in Unity to create custom content and visual effects for the mod.
  • Created and manipulated 3D models and UVs using Blender.
  • Guided team meetings and communicated with 5 artists, a 3D modeler, musicians, and members of upper management.
  • Created 3 beta versions of the software and launched to the public, garnering a front-page position on Tabletop Simulator’s official mod page.
  • Produced a content update after launch for the software a year lader, including visual and gameplay improvements. It also earned a front-page position.

CobbleCritters™ Card Game

MARCH 2021 – PRESENT


SUMMARY

Build a deck, steal legendary gems, and brawl for the Caverns in this lighthearted 2-player creature battling card game.


CONTRIBUTION

I was the sole designer for this game, creating and developing the game alongside a strong community.

  • Designed and developed the game for an audience of 800 players, hosting promotional events, playtests, and tournaments.
  • Worked with an artist to produce 110 unique cards for the game.
  • Tested and balanced the game in regular playtest sessions, incorporating feedback from players.
  • Created promotional media for the game for major content updates, balance patches, and tournaments to raise awareness.
  • Brought the game to Kickstarter alongside a Twitch streaming campaign.
  • Trademarked the game’s name with the USPTO.
  • Created a Tabletop Simulator mod for the game, writing Lua code and creating 3D models in Blender.

Past Projects

Royale

NOVEMBER 2020 – DECEMBER 2020


SUMMARY

Royale is medieval politics in 18 cards. Up to four citizens band together to rebel against the tyrannical Queen before they’re caught and arrested.


CONTRIBUTION

I designed Royale and submitted it to Button Shy’s 18 Card Challenge, where it was a Top 3 Finalist. I then worked with them to develop the concept further, at which point they published it to their website.

Portrayal

JULY 2020 – SEPTEMBER 2020


SUMMARY

A bidding, bluffing, and trading game for 3-4 conniving artists! Build a gallery of custom masterpieces, amass riches, and be crowned the greatest artist in a 3-day long art festival.


CONTRIBUTION

I designed Portrayal for Break My Game’s game jam in 2020, where you are presented with a series of mechanics around which to design a board game. I then created a physical prototype of it using The Game Crafter, and signed the game to Randomskill.

Astro Blast

OCTOBER 2020 – DECEMBER 2020


SUMMARY

Astro Blast is a 20v20 action-packed space fighting game. Duke it out in a huge arena, capturing zones, destroying enemies, and gathering loot to power up.


CONTRIBUTION

I designed and developed Astro Blast for the Roblox platform, using Lua and the platform’s integrated modeling tools to create all assets for the project.

    Lootways

    JUNE 2020 – OCTOBER 2020


    SUMMARY

    Explore a huge world filled with treasures, traps, and mysteries. Discover powerful and magical items, battle foes for their loot, and make it to the end of the Lootway in one piece. An epic adventure.


    CONTRIBUTION

    I designed and developed Lootways for Roblox. It was written in Lua, with all graphical assets and 3D assets created by me as well.

      Rocketball

      FEBRUARY 2020 – JUNE 2020


      SUMMARY

      Rocketball is a free-for-all futuristic sport. Deflect Rocketballs by jumping at them. Get hit and you’re out, but come back as a Ghost and tag opponents to bring them down with you.


      CONTRIBUTION

      I designed and developed Rocketball on Roblox in Lua. All graphical assets and 3D assets were created by me as well.

      Stacks

      SEPTEMBER 2019 – NOVEMBER 2023


      SUMMARY

      A quick, tense bluffing game for 3-4 players. Bluff higher and higher to score, but don’t get caught lying or you’ll lose it all!


      CONTRIBUTION

      I designed Stacks and playtested it, then ran a short physical print run of it through The Game Crafter. A few years later, I picked the concept back up, continued work on the game, and playtested the changes with the Break My Game playtesting group. Alongside this testing, I created a Tabletop Simulator mod for it.
